Arco Castle
A stroll through the olive trees leads to the old Rocca [Fortress]
After going through the village and the beautiful olive grove up to Prato della Lizza, and past the three twenty-metre high walls that survived Napoleon’s cannons, you come to the Castle, on a panoramic spot over the Upper Garda plain.
An eye-catching landscape between the lower Palace and the Fortress ruins, surrounded by century-old cypress trees. Inside, you can visit the Prigione del Sasso dungeon, the Torre Grande and the splendid cycle of secular frescoes from the 14th century depicting ladies intent on playing chess.
Icon and symbol of the city, Arco Castle is reproduced in countless codices and paintings, including the very famous watercolour by Albrecht Dürer kept at the Louvre in Paris.
The castle can be visited all year long and is the venue of music and prose shows in summer.
