The “eye of the plateaus”, impossible to conquer.

This is definitely one of the most interesting forts you can find in Trentino. Located on a rocky outcrop, at an elevation of 1908 metres, its purpose was to serve as an observatory and a visual connection. From there, in fact, it was possible to have an expansive view over the Vezzena plain, the Folgaria plateau, and the Vicenza pre-alpine front opposite the Pasubio.

It was armed with 5 M 07/12 machine guns, 4 of which with fixed armour domes and one in a swivelling armour dome, which also performed the function of an observatory.

The Italians attempted to conquer this fort many times between 1915 and 1916, but unsuccessfully. The fort proved to be unconquerable.

Starting in Autumn 2016, the fort was subjected to a series of operations aimed at retrieving, preserving, valorising and securing it.

How to get there:

You can start from Lavarone, at the Vezzena pass, towards Fort Verle, and walk along the military paths, which require a good level of physical fitness. The alternative is to follow the old military road from the Varagna forest. We suggest caution.

The fort is accessible.
