Paradiso Tunnel

Bringing history to life through the sounds of the battle

A multimedia installation placed in a tunnel 2600 metres above sea level, now easily accessible by cable car.

The “Paradiso Tunnel” lies under the border line fought over by the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies. It served as a shelter for soldiers tormented by the freezing cold and the artillery. Today it houses a multimedia installation with display of war relics and information about the soldiers’ lives. An amazing audio installation brings alive sounds and voices from the war. Outside the fortified Monticelli area can be visited, a linchpin in the Austrian defence system of the Tonale.
