Forte Dossaccio

Forte Dossaccio

Located at 1.838 m, close to Predazzo, Forte Dossaccio is one of the most spectacular military artefacts of eastern Trentino. This Austro-Hungarian Fort was built between 1886 and 1900 and was part of the Austrian fortification system on the Italian border. It is a pentagonal casemate built in porphyry ashlar and concrete, and was protected along its perimeter by a deep ditch.
It was designed to permit long-range operations from a secure position and served as an important bastion against eastern incursion across the valley of the Travignolo stream.

During World War I it was really close to the frontline, but despite this, it never had an active role; in 1915 it was completely unarmed and turned into a storage.

Important conservative works have been made in recent years.

How to get there: from Paneveggio 1,5 hour walk.
