Cis

Featuring rural architecture, Cis provides access to the Aldo Bonacossa path

Cis

The town is located on the down-sloping plateau between the Noce and Barnes river gorges on the South-Eastern slopes of Mount Cort. Cis' town-centre is interesting for its rural architecture and the sacred frescoes decorating some of its houses. The S. Giorgio parish church, dating back to the 13th century, was rebuilt in the 16th century and widened during the 17th century.

The renowned Masi dei Plagi (Plagi Alpine farmhouses) have been built throughout the Valle del Gaggio valley in an enchanting, Alpine atmosphere. The municipality of Cis also includes Mostizzolo; this village is the doorway to Val di Sole and has always been an important transit and crossing point on the gorge of river Noce. In the 12th century the Livo family built a castle there, which later came under the feud of the Thun's.

Cis is the most southernmost starting point for the Aldo Bonacossa path which, climbs up through the Rio Gaggio valley, winds along the long, panoramic crest of the Cima Candei, Cima Vese and Cima Lac peaks, and reaches the ridge splitting the valley in two - Bresimo and Noce
