Passo di Costalunga
The Costalunga Pass is a real paradise for families with children
Its original name is Carezza, a German vernacular expression "kar" meaning bowl, that conjures up the basin shape of Costalunga Pass, 8 km west of Vigo di Fassa. It is stretched on a wide grass saddle straddled between the slopes of the Latemar group and the edges of the Catinaccio. The pass benefits from a beautiful panoramic view, together with a privileged sunny location.
Carezza is a starting-point for numerous trails featuring different difficulty levels and the ski lifts of the Carezza ski area. Thanks to its easy and sunny slopes, Costalunga Pass is a perfect destination for families and for those approaching skis for the first time. The Roda de Vael rock wall looks even more dazzling when enhanced by the white ski-slopes running at its feet.
On the mountain pass two historic hotels stand out with their traditional stone look and with the classic colours of Fassa, blue and white, and white and brick. In addition to Costalunga Pass, another jewel of the Dolomites is Lake Carezza or Karersee, a gem set in the wood that reflects the imposing pinnacles of the Latemar. In the distance you glimpse the elegant silhouette of the Carezza Grand Hotel, the age-old residence of Princess Sissi, which used to welcome renowned celebrities such as Winston Churchill and writer Agatha Christie.
