The Forte Sommo Alto in Folgaria is one of the seven great Austro-Hungarian fortresses scattered on a 30 km line between Cima Vèzzena and the peaks of Serrada on the Folgaria plateau, which bears witness to the battles fought on the Trentino-Veneto front during the Great War. Built in 1911-14, its main function was to connect the Forts of Doss, delle Somme and Cherle. The fort can be reached from the Coe Pass with a 20-minute walk. In the summertime, the Marcia dei Forti marathon is held here, and marks an occasion for a visit. Since 1999, the event has been held on the Folgaria plateau and features trails of different lengths and difficulty levels, which wind their way along the line of the three Austro-Hungarian Fortresses. In the wintertime, the fort is part of the forts' Skitour.
The roof it was equipped with at the beginning was 2.80 m thick, but it got to 3.80 during the first battles of 1915. Only one floor of the three featured by the fort can be visited. The building boasts three rotating steel cupolas, two 10.5 cm howitzers, small calibre canons and 20 machine-gun posts.
