Giovo
Framed by a striking landscape decorated with vine trellises, Giovo manufactures some of the best wines of the region
When people speak of Giovo, they automatically think of vine-growing - a tradition of Val di Cembra. It seems that vines here are almost painted into the landscape, with their trellises gently sloping down on the alluvial sand terraces, which lead to the bottom of the Valle dell'Avisio valley. Lots of fairly age-old huge trees can be found here too.
Giovo is a renowned winemanufacturing centre benefitting from Müller Thurgau, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. One of the most popular and longed-for events of the area is Festa dell´Uva, the grapes festival.
The climate here is also particularly favourable for fruit growing, especially apples.
Giovo includes the administrative districts of Mosana, Verla, Palù, Valternigo, Ville, Masen, and Ceola.
The area also provides visitors with a wide range of opportunities for hiking and bike-tourism, such as all the tours suggested by the "Park and Walk" project.
The remains of the church of San Giorgio are to be found on the top of a hill with spectacular views, and are definitely worth a visit - and together with it, the ancient church of San Floriano at Valternigo.
