From Senale to Rumo. The second stage of the Camino Jacopeo d’Anaunia starts from Senale-Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde and leads us into the valley of Rumo, a world that has preserved a pleasantly alpine charm.

    difficult
    Distance 18.6 km
    7:30 h
    580 m
    1,000 m
    1,592 m
    914 m

This stage is somewhat more challenging than the previous one, both due to the numerous ups and downs encountered and the few villages crossed where you can stock up or interrupt the walk.

However, the beauty of the landscapes and panoramic views will reward the walkers.

Senale is a place of pilgrimage but was once also a transit point for travelers or pilgrims heading to Rome along the Romea or Francigena roads, or toward Mediterranean ports to reach Jerusalem. Along the way, we encounter Lauregno, a German-speaking village made up of many century-old mountain farms, whose central core formed around the ancient parish church with outside the typical Tyrolean cemetery with wrought iron crosses. In Corte Inferiore, a visit is worth the little church of St. Udalrico, rich in precious 15th-century frescoes created by Giovanni and Battista Baschenis.

At this point, you must decide whether to conclude the Camino by going to Sanzeno thanks to the Variant of stage 3 or continue with Stage number 3 to Terzolas.

    Author’s recommendation

Before departure, stock up on water and food as you will be in a fascinating but very isolated mountain environment.

The stamp to put on the Pilgrim’s Credential can be found at:
Senale - Sanctuary of Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde
    Lauregno - Church of S.Vito
Corte Inferiore - Church of S.Udalrico (near Podetti bar)
Marcena di Rumo - Church of S.Paolo

    Safety information

The Camino is well signposted, with the presence of the symbol of the stylized yellow scallop shell and various signs indicating the way. Ancient connecting paths between small villages and ancient roads that led to sanctuaries that were pilgrimage destinations are travelled. There are short stretches of roads with low vehicle traffic.

As you can imagine, the passability of the routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have undergone changes. Before leaving, check the condition of the route by contacting the refuge managers on your path, mountain guides, nature park visitor centers, and tourist offices.

From the square of Senale, continue southwest, following the signage of the Camino Jacopeo to the Urban farm and then take trail no. 1 towards Lauregno passing through the locality Cros de La Barba at an altitude of 1400 meters in the Municipality of Castelfondo. After a long descent, you reach Lauregno, a German-speaking village made up of many century-old mountain farms.

From the square in front of the Church, take a path and then a steep uphill lane and trail no. 2, which through a mixed landscape of woods and meadows leads to the provincial road along the Pescara stream. A rather steep lane is taken that brings us to the Korbler farm and then down along a comfortable forest road to Corte Inferiore, one of the villages that make up the Municipality of Rumo. Here it is worth visiting the little church of St. Udalrico, rich in precious fifteenth-century frescoes created by Giovanni and Battista Baschenis; then continue to Marcena, the end of the stage.

At this point, you must decide whether to conclude the Camino by going to Sanzeno thanks to the Variant of stage 3 or continue with Stage number 3 to Terzolas.

    Equipment

Anyone setting off and wishing to reach their destination without problems must wear a good pair of comfortable shoes, preferably with a sculpted sole (like Vibram) and ankle protection (like hiking boots), but in which the foot is firmly held to avoid blisters or, worse, risking a sprain. It is also advisable to have a stick (or better still, telescopic poles) to help yourself on the path, especially in some more demanding passages.
