Madonna di Campiglio

The favourite of Princess Sissi and the Emperor of Austria

The pearl of the Dolomites is a beloved spot for winter and summer sports, surrounded by the wonderful Brenta Dolomites.

Where to find it

We are in the heart of Val Rendena, among the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of the Adamello and Presanella. Madonna di Campiglio, a resort town with about 800 inhabitants, is among the most renowned of all Trentino. It is located at an elevation of 1,550 metres asl, in the province of Trento.

What to do

Already in the second half of the Nineteenth century, it was a holiday destination for the Austrian nobility and wealthy bourgeois: among its most renowned guests, we cannot miss the opportunity to mention Princess Sissi and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria.

Today, Madonna di Campiglio is a very popular destination among skiing and winter sports enthusiasts, thanks to its 60 kilometres of slopes and 20 ski lift facilities, making it one of the most renowned skiing locations in Italy. Right here, on the “3 Tre” slope, the special slalom competitions of the Alpine Skiing World Cup are held.

But Madonna di Campiglio is also very popular in summer: its position is perfect for those who enjoy excursions on foot, hikes, cycling, and mountain biking. Don’t forget to visit at least one of the five lakes of glacial origin: Serodoli, Gelato, Ritorto, Nero and Lambin.

In addition, the nearby Adamello Brenta Nature Park offers 450 kilometres of mountain trails for either hiking or mountain biking. The landscapes are postcard-worthy, thanks to the wonderful Brenta Dolomites which provide the perfect frame.

And on summer evenings, in the heart of the town, you will find restaurants, bars, play areas for the children, and discos for youths. All year round, Madonna di Campiglio offers varied and high-quality tourism opportunities, both in terms of the accommodation facilities suitable even for families with children, and for the beautiful natural surroundings.

Finally, in the vicinity, we suggest you visit Pinzolo and the Waterfalls of Nardis and Vallesinella.

How to get there

Madonna di Campiglio can be reached by travelling State Road SS 239 di Campiglio which connects Val di Sole with Valli Giudicarie passing through the Alpine pass of Campo Carlo Magno. Those arriving by car, from the A22 Modena-Brennero motorway, must exit at Trento Sud, if coming from the South, and at San Michele all’Adige if coming from the North. Those arriving on the A4 Milano-Venezia motorway must exit at Brescia Est and then follow roads SS45bis, SS237 and SS239 in the direction of Madonna di Campiglio.

Those arriving by train must stop in Brescia or Trento and then continue by bus: from here, you can find bus services that connect the two cities to Madonna di Campiglio every day.
