Val di Peio is scattered with fir and larch forests and with green meadows, dominated by imposing glaciers with crystal-clear torrents that turn into spectacular waterfalls as they flow towards the valley bottom. This internationally renowned health resort and spa lies at the feet of majestic Ortles-Cevedale range.
Towering in the distance is the massive snow-capped mountain called Vioz, featuring the mountain-hut and a small church that used to be the highest of Europe till some years ago. The area also boasts the larches from Comàsine, cradle of Val di Sole mining activities, and a short distance further, the solitary church of Santa Lucia.
Inhabited in the past by the Gauls, Val di Pejo is a land that boasts ancient settlements attracted by its rich soil as well as its location as natural corridor towards Lombardy - west of the Montozzo mountain pass - towards Valtellina, Bormio, and towards Switzerland, further north, through Sforzellina Pass all the way to the Gavia Pass, once popular among smugglers.
